There are two test centres in the Sheffield area: Handsworth and Middlewood Road.
The car driving test fee is £48.50 for weekday tests and cheques should be made payable to the Driving Standards Agency. Application forms are available from test centres or the driving school.
Bookings can also be made by telephone or on-line by using the facilities on the DSA's Website, please see details below.
The approximate waiting list is twelve weeks. Tests are conducted throughout the week, including some evenings and Saturdays. For Saturday and evening tests after 4-30pm, the fee is £58.00.
The duration of the test is approximately 40 minutes or for an extended driving test 70 minutes, which costs £97.00 or for Saturday and evening tests after 4-30pm the fee is £116-00.
At the start of the test candidates will be asked two questions, one 'show me' and one 'tell me'. One or both questions answered incorrectly will result in one driving fault being recorded.
These are basic safety checks that a driver should carry out to ensure the vehicle is safe for use. Although some checks may involve the candidate in opening the bonnet to identify where fluid levels would be checked, they will not be asked to touch a hot engine or physically check fluid levels.
As vehicle technology advances more and more vehicles are being equipped with electronic diagnostic systems, which inform the driver of the state of the engine fluid levels and tyre pressures. It will be acceptable for a candidate to refer to the vehicle information system (if fitted) when answering questions on fluid levels or tyre pressures.
Pupils must have passed their theory test before an application can be made for a practical driving test.
You must produce both parts of your valid provisional driving licence, photographic evidence of identity, theory test pass certificate and appointment letter when presenting yourself for the test, as it will not be conducted without and you will lose your fee. If an appointment notification has not been received after ten days, contact the Booking Office immediately. If you miss your appointment, you may lose your fee. If you wish to cancel your appointment you must give at least ten whole working days notice, which does not include the day of contact, the day of the test or Bank Holidays and weekends.
Pupils must not apply or accept a driving test appointment without first consulting their instructor, as an instructor I.D. number is required in order to avoid double booking the instructor's car.
